Tropical Investments was born out of a passion for helping people enhance their quality of life by achieving their real estate dreams in Costa Rica. We are a professional real estate brokerage serving buyers and sellers in the southern Pacific of Costa Rica.

It’s important to know there is no mandatory license for real estate agents in Costa Rica. That means it’s crucial to only work with a qualified, honest broker with a proven track record of success. Our founder, Karol Barboza, is a licensed real estate broker and local, bilingual Costa Rican. Karol Barboza

Originally from Costa Rica, Karol Barboza grew up within a family of entrepreneurs in the capital city of San Jose. Working in the family business, she learned at an early age the importance of timeliness, responsibility, and honesty. Karol graduated as an engineer at the University of Costa Rica. Later, she returned to attend Law School to better understand the legal aspects of Costa Rican real estate. In 2006, she ventured out of the family business and into a working management position with a group of foreign investors. Moving to the southern pacific, she coordinated with topographers, lawyers, architects, and construction workers, obtaining the permits and support needed to successfully deliver the sellable products to the investors. She then became a licensed broker and continued with them assisting in the sales process. Using her knowledge and experience she was eventually able to successfully execute her own projects as well as managing her husband’s extensive portfolio. Karol loves spending time with her two boys and enjoys mountain biking, travel, and adventure. Her high level of intelligence and empathy combined with her excellent negotiating skills ensure her getting the best deals for her clients, as she is the perfect choice to represent your needs and desires when investing in this paradise called Costa Rica.
